Deacon Notes
Notes from
the Deacons
During
December, the John O. Wilson Hamilton Neighborhood Center (Wilson
Center) is collecting baby food for their food pantry. If members of
the congregation wish to make donations, please leave the food items
inside the front entrance of the church.
The Deacons
would like to thank the congregation for their participation in the
Blood Drive held at our church on November 1st. There was a
large turnout and the Blood Drive was quite a success.
The Care
Notes Shelves outside of Sweazey Hall have been restocked with some new
and interesting titles. Please feel free to look them over and help
yourself to any of the Care Notes that look interesting or helpful to
you (or to people you know).
Our church
sponsored the monthly family birthday party for 64 children and their
moms at the Homefront Family Preservation Center at Katzenbach School on
October 21, 2009. The Outreach Committee and Deacons have partnered to
provide this event quarterly. Homefront had suggested this support as
other groups which formerly ran these parties have ceased to do so. We
buy gift cards for moms and presents for children who have birthdays
during the month, and take cake, juice and goodie loot bags for all
kids. Homefront loves to see our group come, as we bring along a number
of teenagers who take the kids outside! Next time, we will need some
indoor activities, and our youth are already talking about games, music,
etc to entertain the little ones. Along with the Deacons and Outreach
members, Doug Cornelius and Meg Beach invited the youth to participate
instead of the Open Doors program that night. A "Hats Off" to Michael
Oddo, Haley Nelson, Kiera Nelson, Taylor Mills, Kara Breazeale, Nikki
Sirawsky, and Madison Sirawsky for sharing their joy and enthusiasm!
Did
you ever want to help out at your church but just don’t have the time?
Well here is a chance for you to become involved. The Deacons are
looking for families and individuals to be greeters before each worship
service. All you need to do is come ½ hour before the start of the
service with a big smile and a warm hand shake. That’s it!! You
can volunteer as many times as you wish. If you are interested please
fill out the form in the bulletin and put it in the offering
plate. Or contact Lucille Fennimore
