Looking for a church? Our next new members class will meet for four Sundays beginning September 19, 2010 and ending on October 10, 2010. The classes will meet from 10:15-11:15 in the church parlor, across the hall from the church offices. Come and learn about our faith, heritage and mission, and meet other members. The classes are a prerequisite for membership, and serve as an opportunity to discover if membership is something that you desire. Since this is during our normal Christian Education hour, childcare is available. For more information, talk to Pastor Jan or call the church office at 609-587-3683. HOSPITALITY Welcoming the visitor to our church is as natural as welcoming someone into your home. The church is often referred to as “God’s House” and the congregation as our “Church Family” so when a new person is in our midst we are to make them feel “at home.” Here are few hospitable things to do on Sunday mornings.
v Introduce yourself to those you do not know, especially visitors. (Do not be embarrassed if you welcome a long-time member they’ll understand.) v Ask the person about themselves in a caring, non-pushy way. v Make sure the visitor has a bulletin—if they seem lost during the service, explain the order of service in the bulletin. v Ask them to fill in a visitor card – they can put it in the offering plate or you can give it to the pastor. v Offer to show them around the facility so that they can find things like the nursery, rest rooms, Sunday school rooms, and Sweazey Hall. v Invite them to come to the coffee hour with you. v Introduce them to others. v Tell them about our active congregation.
Hospitality can take these and many other forms. Show care and friendliness, but do not be pushy. Hospitality creates space, allowing the person to feel welcome, but not smothered or overwhelmed.
Do not assume that someone else will greet the visitor. Take the initiative and say hello. The Christmas season often brings visitors to the church as they seek to add meaning to the holiday, so be on the alert and show hospitality.
The Nursery Care sign-up sheet for 2009 can now be found in Sweazey Hall on the bulletin board. Please take a moment to sign up and volunteer some of your time to help out in Nursery Care. If you are worshipping with us and wish to be put on our friends list for receiving newsletters or to receive offering envelopes, please call the church office at 587-3683 or drop a note to the secretary. Member Care would like to encourage everyone to ware their name tags. Has your name tag worn out or been lost? I'd be happy to make you a new one, drop me a note Mike@fpchsnj.org and I'll have it for you the following Sunday
